We classify bones as rigid, but they do have some amount of flexibility to them. Our bones will somewhat bend when an outside force is applied, and this is normal. However, if the force is too great, the bones will crack or even shatter. This leads to what we commonly know as fractures.
The physicians here at the Above Urgent Care Center have had to deal with different types of fractures. The severity of the injury will depend on what caused it to break. If the bone’s breaking point has exceeded on slightly, then the bone will experience a crack rather than a complete breaking of the structure. Other causes of fractures are trauma or accidents, osteoporosis, and overuse.
Treatment for broken bones will also depend on the type of fracture a patient has. Here are the different types of fractures that we often deal with in our Walk-in clinic in California:
- Stable fracture
The broken ends of the bone line up and are not out of place - Open, compound fracture
The skin is pierced by the bone or by a blow that breaks the skin. The bone may or may not be visible. - Transverse fracture
The fracture is a horizontal line - Commuted fracture
The bone shatters into three or more pieces - Oblique fracture
The fracture is in an angled pattern
Regardless of the type though, you or anyone who suffers from a fracture needs to get Urgent Care in Montclair, California as soon as possible.
