Broken bones, or also known as fractures, is an injury that requires immediate medical attention. You can seek help from a facility like the Above Urgent Care Center. They operate a Walk-in clinic in California, which can help with your medical needs. However, as the possible first-responder, or victim even, there are a few Do’s and Don’ts that you might want to take note of.
Being a provider of Urgent Care in Montclair, California, we get many visits from patients who have gotten into accidents and have sustained fractures in various parts of their bodies. Knowing what to do and what not to do can mean life or death to the person you are helping or even to yourself.
Here are some first-aid tips for when you are dealing with fractures. Take a look:
- Stop any bleeding by applying slight pressure on the wound with a clean bandage or cloth.
- Immobilize the injured area by applying a splint and securing it with tape. You can add padding to the splint to reduce discomfort. Don’t attempt to realign the bone or push a bone that’s sticking out.
- Apply ice packs to bring down the swelling and relieve some of the pain. But don’t apply ice directly on the skin. Wrap it in a towel or cloth.
- If the person is in shock, feels faint, or is breathing rapidly, lay them down and elevate their legs, if possible.
