Common Eye Injuries and Their Treatment – 1

Common Eye Injuries and Their Treatment - 1

Deep puncture wounds in the eyes are cases that require immediate surgery or treatment by physicians to averse permanent eye damage resulting in vision loss. On the other hand, minor surface scratches may only need simple monitoring after an initial visit to the doctor. The main purpose of this is to prevent any complications like eye infections. Here are some of the common conditions associated with eye injuries and trauma:

  • Scratched eye (corneal abrasion)
Either poked in the eye or you rubbed your eyes when a foreign particle is present, you must seek urgent care in Montclair, California. If you know that something scratched your eye, don’t rub it. To avoid infections, don’t rub or patch it up. Patching might provide an ideal environment for bacteria. You can simply keep your eye closed or loosely tape a paper cup or eye shield over it.
  • Penetrating or foreign objects in the eye
In case a foreign object like a fishhook or metal penetrates your eye, don’t attempt to remove them on your own as it may cause even more injury. As much as possible, try taping loosely a paper cup or put on an eye shield for protection before getting into a Walk-in clinic in California. Some small, sharp pieces may also be embedded in the eye’s corneal surface. Your doctor must remove these foreign objects as soon as possible.
  • Eye swelling
Being struck hard in the eye with a solid object such as a baseball moving at a high speed could immediately result in swelling and puffy, swollen eyelids. An ice pack is the best immediate treatment for this accident, but to make sure that there’s no internal damage, visit your eye doctor.
